200 investigation of his performance style, and to characterize the source base and methodological foundations for further research into his artistic legacy. Methods. The methodological basis of the study includes analytical, music- analytical, and generalizing methods. The analytical method is used to examine scholarly literature, pedagogical works, and biographical materials. The music- analytical method is applied to the study of rhythmic structures, performance techniques, and transcription materials. The generalizing method makes it possible to synthesize the obtained results and to determine the significance of Tony Williams‘s legacy for contemporary percussion art. Results. It has been established that Tony Williams‘s individuality is revealed in his rethinking of the ride cymbal function, his flexible treatment of pulse, his active use of polyrhythm, metric superimposition and displacement, rudimental thinking, and his ability to transform the drum part into one of the leading voices of the ensemble. The study has shown that most existing works are valuable for both scholarship and performance practice, although they usually focus only on specific aspects of his style or on particular periods of his career. It has also been found that Ukrainian musicology still lacks systematic studies devoted specifically to Tony Williams. Conclusion. Tony Williams‘s creative legacy occupies an important place not only in the history of jazz drumming but also in the broader development of contemporary percussion art. His artistic achievements significantly expanded the expressive, rhythmic, and ensemble possibilities of drum performance. The available body of research confirms the importance of his contribution, while also revealing the need for a more systematic and comprehensive scholarly interpretation of his work. As a research prospect promising direction for further research lies in the broader use of modern digital audio-analysis technologies for the study of Tony Williams‘s recordings. Such an approach would make it possible to investigate more deeply the rhythmic, timbral, and dynamic features of his playing, as well as to expand the application of his performance principles in contemporary academic and orchestral percussion practice.
