The elemental composition of the blast furnace slag of Zaporizhstal, determined by the electron-probe microanalysis method, allows to characterize the slag fraction by toxicity. The slag contains a small amount (< 1%) of metals Fe, Ti and Cu, which belong to the third class of hazardous substances, which does not prevent further utilization of the slag. Natural radionuclides 40K, 226Ra and 232Th are detected by gamma-spectrometry method. It has been proven that slag and its separate fractions belong to the first class of radiation hazard and can be used in construction machinery without restrictions. The slag is characterized by high hydraulic activity when increasing the absorption of CaO in time. Slag can be recommended for production of binding materials – Portland cement and slag Portland cement.
