52 PEDAGOGY AND EDUCATION UDC 37.014.5:355.40(477)(043.3) Andrushko Iryna , Fedchenkova Olena Teachers of English Lyceum 25 Zhytomyr city EDUCATION IN WARTIME Abstract: The article examines the role of education for Ukrainian children during wartime, stressing that schools must first ensure safety, belonging, and emotional stability before academic learning can succeed. It describes how schools become shelters of community and resilience, with teachers providing not only lessons but also care and hope. Practical strategies for creating supportive classrooms are offered, including routines, peer connection, and creative activities. Ultimately, wartime education is shown as an act of care that preserves dignity and strengthens children‘s resilience for the future. Keywords: wartime, education, resilience, safety, belonging emotional support, teacher‘s role, trauma-informed teaching, supportive strategies. During wartime, when normal life is disrupted and usual routines collapse, education becomes both more difficult and more essential. For Ukrainian schoolchildren affected by russias full-scale invasion, learning has become an act of resistance, survival and hope. Given what some of our students have experienced – especially during the war –some of the behaviors we see in the classroom are responses to fear or tension, not just 'misconduct'.
