42 competition, local companies also took progressive steps, contributing to the development of the information and communication sector and employment growth. Growth accelerated especially after 2022. In 2023, 44.9 thousand people were employed in the sector, which exceeded the 2010 indicator by 102 percent. The development of this relatively profitable sector and the high external demand also contributed to the expansion of the construction sector, as a result of which 118.4 thousand people were involved in the sector in 2023, 38 percent more than in 2010. Employment growth of 72.8 percent was recorded in the Financial and Insurance Activities sector, which is also actively expanding the use of digital tools. Despite some declines, the sector maintained steady growth in 2020-2023, providing 21.6 thousand jobs. Employment increased by 42.5 percent in the Real Estate Activities and Professional and Scientific Activities sectors (Figure 1). Figure 1. Employed by type of economic activity, 2012-2024 [8] When looking at the larger classification, by agricultural and non-agricultural distribution, we observe a steady decrease in the number of people employed in the agricultural sector from 2012 to 2023, from 461.4 thousand to 253.7 thousand people, or about 45 percent. At the same time, employment in the non-agricultural sector increased by 18 percent. Moreover, the growth phases generally coincide with the phases of digitalization of the economy: significant growth was observed in 2014, 2018, and 2022-2023.
